Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 30th January 2026
Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 30.
Australian thoroughbred meeting is today held at Canterbury, Bathurst, Taree, Cranbourne, Dalby and Launceston.
CANTERBURY: RACE 4 @ 7:30 PM
JOHNNY (8) tackled the $250k Sunlight Consolation when resuming from a spell last start and did a good job to work home into fourth over 1100m on the Gold Coast. Nicely drawn and will relish the extra 150m this evening. Has the right credentials to take this out. Waterhouse/Bott scratch the pre-post favourite which will help the cause of stablemate WATSON (10) who returned with a win recently, crossing from the outside gate to lead and dominate over 1300m at Kembla. Tackling a far better race this time but on the limit he can run a cheeky race. ZALE (4) made it four wins from his last six outings when the easy winner of a 1200m Cowra open handicap last start. Molly Bourke has a terrific affiliation with the gelding and she stays aboard. Must be respected at a big price. CALGA POWER (6) is racing well including a handy fourth over 1200m at the Kensington track last start. Honest and should be about the money again. The progressive EXTRA HEIGHTS (7) is also in the mix.
SELECTIONS: Johnny maps beautifully and can finish over the top of these.

BATHURST: RACE 2 @ 1:50 PM
THE CONTRACTOR (2) settled well back from a wide draw last time then wound up strongly to just miss the frame over a shorter journey at Dubbo. Better for that and gets the chance to settle much closer from the inside alley. Looks set to get off the mark. LADY GIOVANNA (8) has his first ruin for the new stable. Was good on debut on a heavy track at Newcastle, then had issues at start two. If Mirfin has her right she's obviously a massive threat. JUST JOAN (5) improved last time out when finishing alongside The Contractor at Dubbo. Is mixing her form but should look to roll forward and give a sight. MISHPAT (9) struggled at the latest but did give a bold sight two back at Parkes. Expect her to find the front again and give cheek.
SELECTIONS: The Contractor to win.
TAREE: RACE 8 @ 5:15 PM
DIFENSIVO (6) progressive gelding who got off the mark at start five with a a tough on-speed win over 1000m at Muswellbrook. Finds a winnable contest from the right gate. Go close. BETHSHEBA (11) back in grade on resumption with a gritty on-pace second over 1000m at Port Macquarie. Returned a good set of figures on that occasion and looks to have returned well. Respect. BRAZEN BRANDO (13) improved sharply in the rain affected going with a commanding victory over 1000m at Tuncurry. Gets weight relief and hard to ignore in his current form. Each way. SAPPHIRE KISS (3) improved sharply from the wide gate when she finished over the top of them to score a nose win over this track and trip. Similar set-up again and stays in the mix.
SELECTIONS: Difensivo looks too strong for these.
CRANBOURNE: RACE 5 @ 8:15 PM
EDUCATED (9) resumes. She's a 3yo filly who debuted at Tatura in September, backed into $1.55 and leading throughout for a dominant maiden win over 1100m. She's been given time to mature and looks to have a lot more upside than her rivals. She's speedy and has jumped out well leading in. Expect she measures right up. FULLY CALCULATED (6) is racing well without winning, placing in her past two starts. She was solid behind a smart one last time at Sale and that form should hold up. COMMANDS SUCCESS (2) is going well this time in, the only miss coming in a tougher race at Flemington. He needs the breaks given his pattern but has the ability to be figuring. TOOKAY PETE (1) has won his past two, too strong up on speed here last time out. This is a bit tougher again but he has to be considered. FROSE (5) next best.
SELECTIONS: Educated to win.
DALBY: RACE 7 @ 6:19 PM
SUPER QUICK (2) showed good early dash and held on well to finish 3 lengths back in third over 1200m at Doomben. Was a comfortable all-the-way winner at Ipswich prior. Will enjoy a drop in class and from a low gate he can bounce back. THAT'S AN EXTRA (8) is in the hot Pat Webster yard and brings a win and a placing in this grade from Toowoomba. Has been kept on the fresh side and is a decent hope. TAVIS TOWN (6) resumed improved at the Sunshine Coast and Wiggins stays aboard. Proven second-up and he can show more like his best this preparation. RUSSIAN SUB (1) is third up and should be ready to feature. He has plenty up his sleeve and is well placed at best with a 3kg claimer aboard. The gate is tricky.
SELECTIONS: Super Quick to win.
LAUNCESTON: RACE 7 @ 9:08 PM
WEDNESDAY'S BOSS (7) won a trial and then resumed here in good order beaten a nose this grade/distance. Has placed 3/3 second up and has plenty up her sleeve. Has the race fitness and will be tough to beat. MATERIAL MADAM (6) resumes and is proven fresh and at this course/distance. Owns a Hobart trial win and the 3kg claim brings her right into it. AZONTO (2) also resumes and can feature if presented forward. Will race over further, but she's trialled well and has a low gate and 2kg claim. The betting will be key. OBVIOUSLY GOOD (4) won here second-up and keeps improving. He can make the finish with average luck in the run. SIMPLY DEEP (3) has needed his two runs this preparation and can show more. He finds easier grade and maps well. A hope if he can bring his best synthetic form to the turf.
SELECTIONS: With Wednesday's Boss.
