Tim Hale named new ATC chairman
The Australian Turf Club has a new chairman.
Tim Hale has been elected chairman of the Australian Turf Club, replacing the outgoing Peter McGuaran.
Hale, who has served on the ATC board since 2021, was voted in on Monday night.
His appointment followed the recent announcement by McGauran that he was stepping down from the role despite his term not expiring until January next year.
"Mr Hale has served on the ATC board since February 2021 and brings extensive legal expertise, governance experience and a long connection to racing," the ATC said in a statement.
Former media personality and long-time industry advocate Caroline Searcy has been elected vice-chair.
The changes come following a tumultuous period for the ATC administration after its members voted against a potential $5 billion sale of Rosehill racecourse in May.
McGauran had advocated for the sale and said part of his decision to resign was his belief a fresh chairperson could offer a "renewed focus" for the club's future and its members.
He remains a director of the ATC.
Hale is expected to make further public comment on his appointment in the coming days.
