This weekend it's Coolmore's turn

The Irish juggernaut has snared several good victories this week.

And the outstanding one of these was that of Henri Matisse in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) G1 over 1600m. Starting on 12/5 Ryan Moore kept him comfortable in the middle of the field as stablemate and pacemaker Serengeti went off at a scorching pace and then when the time was right eased him out and let him go and was answered by a great finish from his mount. Andrew Balding's Jonquil was only a head away in second and stablemate Camille Pissaro third, the latter two starting on 7/1.

Despite having four runners in the 13 runner field for the Pouliches there was no luck for Coolmore here nor for Kevin Shoemark whose horse She's Perfect was first over the line and following an objection from Mickael Barzalona on favourite Zaragane in second the protest was upheld and the result reversed.  However this did give the late Aga Khan's runners their 100th G1.

Mandanaba was a length back in second and the Coolmore runner Exactly fourth.

So the Poulains gave Coolmore their first Classic of the year and they also had good results in the Lingfield Oaks and Derby Trials, the Leopardstown Derby Trial with a top run from Delacroix, and they pocketed the Cheshire Oaks and Vase.

Over in Germany at Hoppegarten Flatten The Curve won his fourth successive race in the G2 Oleander-Rennen over 3200m. We wonder if they are thinking Melbourne.
