The Best From The West - 10th of May 2025
Best Bets for Ascot's final day.
We head to Ascot for the final meeting of their season with the WA Sires Produce the feature event on the card.
The rail is out 8 metres on Saturday, with the track rated a Good 4 (as of Thursday afternoon) and cooler conditions forecast for this weekend.
The Sires is headed by the two placegetters in the Karrakatta Plate, Just Too Fly and Snitzalatte.
Both horses were having just their third career start WA's 2YO Grand Final, with the former beating the latter despite the market favourite Snitzalatte.
The market does so again on Saturday, albeit with less between them after Just Too Fly finished 0.6L ahead of his main danger.
Snitzalatte does get William Pike back in the saddle and a better barrier on Saturday, though the race was there for her to win in the Karrakatta and Just Too Fly held her out right down the straight.
Suspect the rise in trip suits both horses, but this shapes similarly to what we saw in the Karrakatta and it's hard not to be on the side of Just Too Fly after beating home Snitzalatte a fortnight ago.
Deltason bolted in at this track and trip at his last start, but this is a much tougher race now and he'd have to raise the bar again to be catching the first two in the market.
Heading to the opening two races on the card for the Best Bets, with race 1 #2 I'M NIPOTE an attractive commodity.
After a good win two back, he went to Pinjarra last start and looked to have the race won before peaking on the run in the final stages of the race.
Back to 1400m now looks ideal and he looks to have a bit of a ratings edge on his rivals.
Boussac continues to go under narrowly and will be starting to get on punters' nerves with the prices he's been going around at.
I'm Nipote looks to be on an upward trajectory and while he'll be back in the run, Pike rides now and this looks a great opportunity to get back to winning ways.
In race 2, #1 DAYTONA PETE was beaten as a $3.50 chance first-up, but the run has plenty of merit to it.
The brother to the old legend Red Can Man was run off his feet over 1000m first-up, but his late splits were great, and he was a big improver when second-up last campaign.
He wasn't far off his peak rating first-up in a positive sign for the campaign ahead and trainer Steve Wolfe has mentioned he'll be more of a miler opposed to his sprinting brother.
Pond Master comes up as the early favourite, but the feeling is he wants further than 1200m and the feeling is that Daytona Pete can go past him now.
He looks a good horse on the rise, and he looks a good bet earlier in the card.
