Anthony Speaking
Being in Melbourne: "I came today, really only to support Sam. He's been here all spring and we really haven't had, what you would call, a great spring. This was the horse we had so much faith in and he prepared him perfectly. I just wanted to be here and sit in the background and say well done. Credit to the horse, Godolphin, obviously great supporters and our staff have done a great job."
Sharing success: "I'm particularly impressed as we haven't had a great spring and it hasn't been straight forward and he has struggled with that a little bit. I said 'hang in there' as when you've got the right horse, it will do the job and this is the one."
Back-up next week: "We'll see, we'll definitely look into it. We've said that from day dot. If he has a good three-or-four days, there's no reason why he will not turn up next week."
On the colt: "I think he's very good. Today was dominant, he didn't have all the favours but when produced showed an electric turn of foot.
"We may run next Saturday, we'll see how he does, but he's a very big tough colt.
"Privileged to train for Godolphin and get horses like this.
"Credit to all the staff here. Particularly credit to Sam. I'm now living in Sydney and he's shouldered everything and produced him here perfectly."
Sam speaking
On the win: "Big thrill. A lot of hard work has gone into it. It doesn't aways pan out like that. The team at home have done a great job, we're supported by some great staff who put in a lot of hours and for the old man, to do it with him, it's pretty special."
Special winning with his father?: "It is, and Godolphin, they've been amazing supporters of ours for a very long time and this colt has been with us since Day 1 and he's showed a lot the whole way through.
"To do it with dad, he's the reason I'm here today, so without him I'd be nothing. So it's incredibly special."
Winning Jockey: Mark Zahra
Ducking and diving: "Anthony said don't panic, just trust the horse. He was right and I just trusted the horse. I got on the back of Beiweicht and that other Snowden horse (Racing Force). The way he improves each start and the further the race went, the more he came up underneath me. He let rip when I first let go and then he thought 'where am I' and he started to stargaze. He's a very good colt and what a win"
That trust: "I had the pick of a few early, but I have ridden a lot of big winners for them and I trust them and we've had a lot of luck, so I was happy to stick for sure."
On the main emotion around his celebration: "Excitement for sure. I chose him out of a few horses but I stuck with my barn, the 'Freedies', and they just had him absolutely on the ball for today.
"It's just so good when you're involved with a team, and it all pays off."
Comparisons to his win on Merchant Navy: "Probably not as last minute as that. His work on Tuesday was unbelievable and Sam Freedman said, 'he might do something special today'.
"I was like, 'just take it easy, let's get to the race', but he was right.
"I travelled behind the horses I wanted to but, jeez, halfway through he just picked up underneath me. I was still a bit far out but I let him rip and he was just star-gazing the last 100.
"Massive win and onwards and upwards. What a beautiful horse."
