Strawberry tastes sweet for Kasi

Four-year-old mare Geegee Strawberry ($19) was on her last chance when she picked her way through the field to win the 1200m class 1 in Hobart on Sunday.

Ridden by Kasi Boxall, the win delivered the hardworking jockey her first victory as a senior rider, and her second win for the season after Geegee Strawberry won her maiden back in November.

"She's got a good turn of foot and can finish off well. She was on the chopping block today and was looking to be moved on, but she seems to have a knack for getting herself out of that," trainer Stuart Gandy said.

"It's great for Kasi (Boxall), she rode her a treat today and probably looked the winner a fair way out. Nice horse, she is limited but good on her day."

Gandy prepared first and third in the race with Snowdonia ($4.40) filling a trifecta spot with Hububbajahn ($3.50 fav) in between the Gandy-trained pair.

Roxie relishes Hobart return
Anyways Roxie ($4.40) will likely be aimed at the Group 3 Mystic Journey Stakes over the Summer Carnival after her win in the class 6 (1200m).

After opening her campaign with two runs on the Devonport synthetic, Anyways Roxie ran home over the top of the leader Alpine Thunder ($3.30), with Furneaux ($3.70) third.

Anyways Roxie has now won six of her 16 starts, with all six wins on the Hobart circuit.

The win made it a double for popular jockey Erica Byrne Burke, who had earlier used all her strength to get Miss Lyra ($14 – $8.50) home in a busy finish to the 2YO handicap (1200m).

Having just her second start, Miss Lyra scored in a photo from Bright Night ($9.50) and Bella Chinkara ($3.50).
