Staking Strategy: Launceston - Wednesday, 10th December 2025
The Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival rolls on with a big program in Launceston on Wednesday night, headlined by the $125,000 Conquering Stakes.
The support card includes the $75,000 3yo Trophy, and the night kicks off with the first 2yo race of the season.
The rail is at +7m, a shift from +5m for the meeting a week ago, and fine weather is forecast.
R1 Myles Baker Electrical 2yo Maiden, 1100m
Nine unraced 2yo's are lining up for the first time and with only 3 stables represented, the market should be a great guide. ARISTOPOLOS (1) was an impressive trial winner in slow time but looks well above average. MOMENTSLIKETHESE (7) found the line well under minimal urgings at her only trial appearance. BRUTAL EMPIRE (2) has improved at every trial outing but was well beaten by Aristopolos when they clashed. KING CANDY (3) and ZODIAC RISING (5) next best.
R2 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup Packages On Sale Now! Maiden, 1200m
MEGALITA (6) was blocked for a run at a key stage on debut and his beaten margin was unfair. Has drawn awkwardly but with even luck will go close. VORTISTAR (8) is yet to place on the mainland from three starts but showed good speed in his trial and the one that beat him looks extra-smart. SH'BOURNE RISING (11) nicely bred first-starter trialled up well in good company and looks hard to beat. VABUIAGI (14) was narrowly beaten here behind Zulu Fields and had its chance but will be better for the experience. UP TO TORI (13) went too quickly when resuming and all things considered stuck on very well.
R3 Cressy Chaff Cutters Longford Cup 1st January Maiden, 1600m
BEAU WARRIOR (1) was a better run than it looks at Hobart after having to work in the early stages. Was also 51-days between runs there so strips fitter here. A 2-length defeat prior to Don't Give It up reads well. ROUSING LEVI (6) was a much better run last time and there's been winning form out of that race. TIMMIE LAD (8) was beaten a long way behind a very smart winner last start but shuffled back at a vital stage and should've finished a bit closer. STRIDING BAY (4) can mix form and was poor last time after box seating and gets some minor gear changes but take on trust. SEND ME GOLD (7) was ordinary last start with minor excuses but the return run was good, now gets blinkers and tongue tie added and can improve.
R4 Play Summer Swheeps 10th Dec To Win Heaps C1 Hcp, 1600m
BENEFICIARY (1) was an outstanding winner here on debut and there looks to be plenty of more wins in store for the 5yo gelding. BLOOMING EDGE (2) should be ready now third up and extra trip looks ideal. COOL CONQUEST (9) continues to race well without winning, was strong to the line last start in a leader dominated race. MISS TERASITA (10) hasn't been far away all runs this prep and this easier than last start when third-placed in a solid Benchmark 60 race. EAGLEFURTHER (6) didn't handle the rise in trip last time but a big winner at this trip on the heavy the start prior.
R5 Bws 3yo Trophy, 1400m
CRACK THE SHUTTERS (2) has been outstanding this time in and continues to get better, far too good in the 3yo cup and clearly the one to beat here. Next best either MAZZINI (1) or DAYTONA DIVA (6), there's not a lot between that pair. BRIGHT NIGHT (5) was a bit of a forgive run first up when drawn extremely wide and can into the first-4's. Next best WOLF JUNIOR (3) who is fresh out of maiden grade.
R6 Book For The House Of Arras Corporate Marquee Cup Day C2 Hcp, 1100m
OHSHE'STROUBLE (5) was a soft winner in class 2 company last time despite laying in badly in the straight. LADY GALADRIEL (2) the main threat. Couldn't muster early but finished off very strongly in same race and ran the quickest last 800 for the evening. COAL RIVER (4) makes own luck and strong winner in class 1 grade here last week. BLAMEITONTHEBOOGIE (1) beaten margin was a bit unfair last start albeit was never going to win. SIMPLY DEEP (3) resumes and won first up in first preparation. First time away from the synthetic. FLUFFY'S GIRL (7) next best.
R7 Pfd Food Services Conquering Stakes, 1400m
DURAZZO (5) sat handy and finished too well in the Newmarket under handicap conditions, the toughest to beat here at WFA. JUST CRUISIN' (11) drew poorly and covered ground in the Newmarket and ran out of his skin. WFA the obvious query but he's a horse on the up. THESPIAN WATERS (8) had an impossible task first up now draws more favourably and was stiff in this race last year. BANK MAUR (1) was given no hope in the Cranbourne Cup and was a very handy 3yo in his day. Had some issues since and no surprise to see him measure up. WINEGLASS BAY (3) was far from disgraced over an unsuitable trip first-up and look for improvement out to the 1400m.
R8 Craig Hanson Memorial Bm68 Hcp, 1600m
THE LONGEST YARD (5) was a tough winner last start at 1400m after being left in front at the top of the straight. Was there to be beaten turning for home but refused to lie down. Hard to beat again but awkwardly drawn. FLOSSING (3) caught the eye at first local run in a harder race but will need plenty of luck from back in the field. Stablemates FAST THINKER (1) and ORIGINAL GLAZE (4) are tough on pace horses and always hard to get past. LOVIN' BEV (3) showed some versatility last time to score another win. ELEGANTLY WRITTEN (7) jumped out of the ground for a last stride win here over 1600m in an easier race but is going too well to discount.
R9 Book Into The Country Cup Marquee Longford Cup Day Bm64 Hcp, 1200m
WITHIN SIGHT (5) can return to form, forgive last time at Hobart, wasn't suited, saves best for here. BAYSIDE (2) resumes, drawn to advantage stalking the leaders and will get his chance. STARS IN THE NIGHT (3) a last start winner this track and trip but a couple were unlucky in behind him. QUICKEN UP (1) mixes her form but a winner this track and grade 2 runs back before failing last time. Next best WARICA (4).
