Staking Strategy: Devonport - Sunday, 14th September 2025 (Updated)

Devonport is the scene for Sunday thoroughbred racing again this week.

Racecourse : Devonport.
Racecourse : Devonport.

It's a nine-race card with the transfer of one of the two abandoned races from the meeting seven days ago.

Race 1 is set for 12:15.

R1 Simons Carpets Devonport Class 6 Handicap, 1009m

Royal And Tough (2) is off a break and has a very good record fresh. Was far from disgraced behind Durazzo first up last preparation this track and trip. CHEROKEE DANCER (3) chased home a smart winner first up and although back in trip she's 42-days fresh. POWER MAGNUM (5) was placed here last start but is yet to win over the 1009m. AMANT FRANCAIS (4) won a class 1 with some authority this track and distance two runs back. QUICKEN UP (1) is in the mix but has some speed drawn inside.

Staking Strategy: Royal and Tough has never missed top 3 first-up and will be hard to hold out from the good gate. 2 units to win ROYAL AND TOUGH (2).

R2 Ladbrokes Mates Modes Pot Maiden/class 1, 1650m

There was a bit to like about the win of Purr Sefanee (10) at Hobart a fortnight ago. The time was good and she was strong on and through the line. Strikes tougher opposition here but has upside and could go on with it.  KNIGHTS REIGN (8) has solid mainland form and will be competitive. GEEGEE AUNTY JESS (7) is racing well and was just no match last start after being caught wide early. DON'T GIVE UP (3) should just about be ready third run back. Not much luck at his latest but boxed on solidly and this easier than his past couple. OPENSEA (9) was 5 weeks between runs last time and he ran okay. SAKURA HIME (11) is a last start winner and maps well.

Staking Strategy: Knights Reign is hard to line up with the locals but the market is pointing towards him running very well. Geegee Aunty Jess is overs. 1 unit to win GEEGEE AUNTY JESS (7) and KNIGHTS REIGN (8).

R3 Kevin Sharkie #gottaluvtassieracing 3yo & Upwards Maiden, 1350m

Tizsa Nice Drop (9) was just no match for her stablemate last start and is close to breaking through. WANNABE ZIGGY (10) started favourite at Hobart but not a lot went right and is worth another chance. FINAL APPROACH (3) was forced to cover a lot of ground in the same race and boxed on okay under the circumstances. THE MOUNTAINEER (6) draws well and gets blinkers back on but has had a stack of chances. I'M A MACHINE (4) did enough on debut in a decent maiden. BEAU WARRIOR (1) last run here was okay, include in exotics.

Staking Strategy: Top pickTizsa Nice Drop is short enough. Wannabe Ziggy has had little go right this preparation, gets her chance. 1 unit to win WANNABE ZIGGY (10).

R4 Coach House Benchmark 76 Handicap, 1350m

Lovin' Bev (3) tackles Devonport for the first time but gets in well after the claim and will be hard to run down. ASVA (1) was solid but had every chance here behind Sushi Express. Should get run of the race from the good gate and dropping back in trip suits. FIGHTING FLOYD (4) and THE SPIRIT OF ZERO (5) have form that ties in with Lovin Bev. They had tempo to suit at Hobart. ORIGINAL GLAZE (6) is first up and having her first local start. Handles the synthetic, check betting moves. METAVERSE (2) is resuming and usually takes a run or two.

Staking Strategy: Lovin' Bev looks suited this track and trip, straight to the front and keep running. 3 units to win LOVIN' BEV (3).

R5 Kevin Sharkie 3yo & Upwards Maiden, 1150m

Alpine Dame (4) was good here two starts ago then not much went right last Sunday. NOVALARGO (7) is on debut and has drawn well and trialled nicely in good time although she did a bit wrong. SEDNA (8) continues to race well at Hobart and has a synthetic placing on the mainland. SNOW MAIDEN (9) was placed on debut then was quickly beaten second up and seemingly had every chance. 28 -days fresh for this and back in trip may prompt some improvement. TURBO CHOOK (2) is another one on debut and has had a good grounding at the trials. SWING LOW (10) trialled okay and strikes a moderate race.

Staking Strategy: No firm opinion in this race but Alpine Dame had no favours last outing and does look a bit of value. 1 unit each-way ALPINE DAME (4).

R6 The Stables At Spreyton Benchmark 68 Handicap, 1150m

Thoros Of Myr (2) brings winning form, makes own luck and is always gives a sight this track and trip. Maps for an uncontested lead and will take running down. GOLDEN MEADOW (6) doesn't win out of turn but is more than capable with the right run. Recent efforts aren't as bad as they read. GEEGEES CITY BOY (1) and CORNELIAN BAY (4) are consistent and proven performers this track and grade. WARICA (5) meets the top rater on better terms for a 2.4 length defeat last start.

Staking Strategy: The short-priced favourite has been scratched , the race has opened right up. Golden Meadow is probably going better than the form reads and races well here. 1 unit to win GOLDEN MEADOW (6).

R7 Goodstone Group Class 1 Handicap, 1150m

Kensington Diva (3) led for a long way first up and will strip fitter for it. Just has to navigate the wide draw. PLATINUM REGGAE (5) was far from disgraced in a harder race last start before going for a break. Has trialled nicely and maps for every chance. GETCHA GROOVE ON (4) boxed on gamely first up chasing a strong speed and was collared by a backmarker right on the line. HARTMAN (2) is a new arrival with moderate mainland form but the trial was sharp, check betting. COOL CONQUEST (7) will get back and needs luck but isn't the worst.

Staking Strategy: Hartman has been well-backed. Hard to line his form up with the locals but he does seem short enough given his overall record. Have always had a bit of time for Platinum Reggae and she should be thereabouts. 2 units each-way PLATINUM REGGAE (5).

R8 Tasmanian Horse Transport Class 2 Handicap, 1350m

Go Jeanie (1) bumped into one better here two runs back then didn't finish off at Hobart after looming large at the 200. Suited back to this track and trip. KAKIA (2) made a mess of the start first up and got too far back before running on strongly with 59kg. He ran well. STEELE MY SUNSHINE (8) produced a big run first up for her new stable after working overtime in the early stages to find the lead. She did a good job to hold on as well as she did. NIGHT INVADER (5) has returned in good order. A last to first winner resuming. A tough day for backmarkers last Sunday and she ran okay. LION'S TOOTH (7) has been stuck on two wins for a long time but ran some handy races last campaign in good company. MATERIAL MADAM (4) competes well in this grade and has to be included. Synthetic an unknown.

Staking Strategy: Go Jeanie was brave in defeat here prior to last starts Hobart failure and must include Steele My Sunshine at the big price. 3 units to win GO JEANIE (1). 1 unit to win STEELE MY SUNSHINE (8).

R9 The Stables At Spreyton Benchmark 64 Handicap, 1650m

Fighting For Gold (7) remains winless this preparation but has run well every start. The wide gate was a negative last Sunday and was doing best work late. FIORENTE DE LEGEND (8) is fit and in form and is clearly good enough but at only start here finished well down the track. ALPINE AFFAIR (1) best goes close but does need to lift and the same applies to GEE GEE CAN WIN (5). DYNAMIC DEEL (3) has won his past couple. Was given every possible last start but can't knock winning form

Staking Strategy: It's hard to go past the top 2 in the market. Their recent form does look superior. Slight lean to Fighting For Gold on her home track. 2 units to win FIGHTING FOR GOLD (7).
