Staking Strategy: Hobart - Saturday, 8th November 2025

Saturday racing is in Hobart for the only time of the year. The annual seven-race program contains the $50,000 Goodwood Handicap, a traditional lead-up for the Listed Newmarket in a fortnight.

R1 Hype Productions Maiden, 1200m

Party Day (3) gets blinkers applied at start number 4 and rises in trip. A forgive run last start at Launceston after covering ground. SOUTHERN AURORAS (4) showed some ability in her first preparation – placed 2 from 3 – not far away the other run. NORTHERN CHILD (1) could show up on debut. There's been some winning form coming out of the 2 trials he's contested. WANNABE ZIGGY (5) was just fair on the synthetic last start and kept fresh for this. Handy record this track, gone close to winning on a couple of occasions. ZANZI (6) was sound first up at Launceston after settling at the tail of the field, wider chance.

R2 Raine & Horne Northern Suburbs Maiden, 1200m

Don Turboas (9) ran well on debut at Devonport behind Prince Of Khatun and that is clearly the best form-line in this race. Impressive trial winner here prior to that effort. VERHOEVEN (8) was slowly away first up and settled back in an on-pace dominated race. Blinkers go on here and can improve. MIDWAY POINT (10) resumes and did enough on debut back in June finishing midfield in a strong maiden, likely improver. COAL RIVER (2) is lightly raced and gets a host of gear changes at first local start. Placed once in Victoria in a moderate maiden. Betting the best guide for him along with INFRINGEMENT (3), another new arrival. MONCLERE (4) is limited but notably his best effort to date was at this track on genuine soft ground and those conditions are expected to prevail on Saturday.

R3 Raine & Horne Hobart & Kingborough Rentals Maiden, 1430m

Timely Needs (3) is working up to a win and clear top pick, was wide on debut then found the line strongly at start number two, has drawn perfectly and soft ground should be no issue. CARNOTAURUS (11) the second emergency was never likely at Launceston but ran very well the run prior at this track on yielding ground. TASSIE POWER (2) led and faded at Launceston and will strip fitter here but is very one-paced. ALPINE COWGIRL (4) will concede a start and should be running on but won't find it easy with the rail being out so far. SEDITIOUS AWARD (8) has returned in good order but all of her better runs have been at Launceston. Both efforts this track poor. SUNRISE AT KIRRA (9) has been consistent of late without winning, and a long-time maiden.

R4 Lyden Builders Maiden/class 1, 2050m

Our Indulgence (4) contests a staying trip for the first time in his 38-start career. Gives the impression he will be suited. The 2-length defeat behind Don't Give Up 2 runs back reads well. OCCASIONAL GLIMPSE (12) appreciated getting away from the synthetic and battled on soundly behind Skelmorlie at Launceston over 2150m. Tricky gate but gets in well after the claim. ZURICH (6) hasn't done a lot wrong this time in. A good winner resuming then boxed on well second up after working early, couldn't get in last start, forgivable after covering ground. Maps to be in the finish and placed only start this track and trip. TIDEFORD (9) has had a couple of fitness runs and now steps out to a more suitable journey and soft ground helps. PAULARTES (13) does need to improve but might do so rising in trip.

R5 Kelly Civil Contracting Class 2 Handicap, 1600m

Purr Sefanee (4) is suited with the rail being out a long way, looks the obvious leader and will be hard to run down. AL MAXIMUS (2) is third-up and one of the key chances. Blocked at a key stage last start. Winner here and handles soft going. MILES 'N' MILES (3) is going great runs and is nearing another win. Has finished close up in harder races at past couple. NAVARRE RIVER (1) comes straight off a win in class 1 company after enjoying the run of the race. This is tougher from an awkward draw but has upside and can't be ruled out. STEELE MY SUNSHINE (8) backs up from Tuesday and stuck on well behind Restricted Access. Has won at this distance. THANKGODITSFRIDAY (5) is getting fitter and blinkers go on third run back.

R6 Tony Carrick Goodwood Handicap, 1100m

Good race. Every horse bar Furneaux is resuming. Durazzo and Silver Dagger look the standouts.Don't think there's a lot between them. DURAZZO (1) draws the outside but unlikely to be a major concern at this stage of proceedings. Finished close up in this race last year when fourth-up and without a lot of luck. Presents first-up today. Went close to breaking the track record at Devonport first-up last preparation. SILVER DAGGER (6) commands plenty of respect and a genuine chance. Her turn of foot is impressive and she excels off a break. TSUNAMI SAM (3) is an outstanding performer at this track. Was unbeaten last preparation and both were high quality off-season races. ALVARINHO (4) ran extremely well in this race last year. Barrier 1 later in the day potentially a negative? Next best AND BEYOND (2) and GALENUS (5).

R7 Raine & Horne Commercial Hobart Bm60 Hcp, 1430m

Fiorente De Legend (6) always a threat this track and distance range. Forgive the last run, Devonport is not her track. Was in good form prior. Barrier 2 this time of the day could be a negative? NO ACCESS (10) has consistently been around the mark for the new stable and beaten by a gun ride last time. GINGERSON (4) backs up from a solid effort on Tuesday. Usually thereabouts this trip. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (2) a big watch for new stable. Form ordinary of late but anything resembling best would go close. Doesn't want it too soft. TURF PUZZLE (9) isn't a regular winner but is seldom far away. No favours last start, a complete forgive. OPALSON (8) may need one more run but is getting fitter and if they overdo in front is a blowout chance. GEEGEEHAILSTORM (7) ready to peak third run in but still some query running the 1400m out strongly.
