Softer track Far Easier for stable star

For trainer David Mccolm, there's no doubt in his mind he has Far Too Easy going very well ahead the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Despite finishing 14th of 18 in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 14, McColm believes Far Too Easy doesn't appreciate a firm Eagle Farm surface, on which he's failed twice this preparation.

"The track was really, really hard," McColm said.

"Regan Bayliss just said to me from the moment he jumped, he just didn't feel comfortable. So those firm tracks, he does feel them, and we are very much aware of that.

"We were just hoping that we were going to run into a softer track and as it turned out, that wasn't the case on that day."

Prior to that run, Far Too Easy had run second to eventual Stradbroke winner War Machine at Doomben, and that, coupled with a gallop between runs, has McColm confident he can bounce back on Saturday.

"He came through it super. I mean, going into the Stradbroke, I said to Regan, I don't think he's been as good as what I had him going.

"But he's pulled up really well, he's well within himself. He had a gallop at the Gold Coast last Saturday with another horse and just went super.

"The thing is that we're going to get a softer track on Saturday, I think that's without a doubt. That'll suit him."

Far Too Easy gave McColm the biggest win of his training career when taking out the $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Randwick last year, however he revealed that the rising seven-year-old won't be back to defend his title.

"Unfortunately, we're not eligible this year because we've actually relocated to the Gold Coast in the past ten days," McColm, who was previously based in Murwillumbah, said.

The Kosciuszko is only open to horses trained in country New South Wales and McColm said the decision to move his base was a tough one.

"We've lost the entry into the Kosi with him which weighed heavily in our decisions, but the for and against it, we thought we'd be better off relocating."

Far Too Easy is a $4.50 second elect in the Glasshouse Handicap on Saturday with Warnie holding the call at $4.00.
