Even without his remarkable career in the Arrowfield Stud breeding barn, Snitzel made an impact on the Australian racing scene.
He burst onto the scene with a three-length win in the 2004 Breeders Plate, started favourite (when unsuccessful) in both the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper, before being a key player in a star-studded Victorian sprint triple crown of 2006.
The sole Group 1 win of his racing career, which was overseen by Gerald Ryan, came in that year's Oakleigh Plate.
But the performances on the track by the son of Redoute's Choice, who died on Wednesday at age 22, were dwarfed by what he did as a stallion.
Among his 1281 winners, who have combined for almost 3700 wins and $257 million in prizemoney, are 160 Stakes winners to date, 23 of whom who have won at the highest level.
A four-time winner of the Australian Champion Stallion award, he holds the rare distinction of having produced at least 10 horses to have run to 120 on the Racing And Sports ratings scale.
