Renowned Australian racing journalist Ray Thomas, who recently retired as Racing Editor of the Daily Telegraph after 31 years at the helm, will be joining Racing and Sports from February 2026, with a substantive part of his role being the provision of content for Hong Kong-based subsidiary Racing and Sports Asia.
Thomas, who has been one of the most respected racing journalists in Australia and internationally for many years, has been responsible for breaking and covering many of racing's biggest stories in his time as Racing Editor.
Thomas brings with him a wealth of experience across the media landscape having worked across all forms of racing media from print and digital, to live radio and television.
Thomas will assume the role of Racing and Sports International Racing Editor and part of that role includes contributing to several leading racing publications and media assets that were purchased by Racing and Sports Asia in early 2025 that include the Sun Newspaper, Hong Kong Daily News and iRace as well as digital assets that have a circulation and reach to 3 million readers.
In addition to covering Hong Kong Racing news, Thomas's new role will also focus heavily on producing editorial content that will promote the Hong Kong Jockey Club's programme around simulcast and World Pool meetings beamed into the vast Hong Kong racing audience.
Thomas will also maintain his many contacts and involvement within Australian racing and his contributions include aligning local horses and racing industry participants globally, in particular World Pool meetings. These include Australia, Europe and Asia as Racing and Sports continues its expansion into new frontiers.
"I am excited to take on this newly created role with Racing and Sports as it allows me the flexibility to bring many global racing stories to the largest racing audience in the world in Hong Kong, while continuing to showcase Australian racing," said Thomas.
"Racing and Sports Asia is delighted to have secured a journalist of Ray's calibre and wealth of experience to spearhead our editorial coverage for our publishing assets in Hong Kong. The appointment marks another significant step for the business's push into Hong Kong." said Stephen Crispe, CEO of Racing and Sports.
