Quick back-up for Salty Pearl
Blinkers will go on Salty Pearl as she attempts to take the VOBIS Platinum Guineas at Caulfield.
The Ciaron Maher stable will resort to a successful ploy is their bid to win a rich restricted race at Caulfield.
Salty Pearl will take her place in the $500,000 VOBIS Platinum Guineas (1600m) on Saturday looking to improve on her placing at Flemington last week.
The filly has backed up successfully before, winning at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day last year which came after finishing fourth in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield a week earlier.
The Maher stable has also added blinkers to Salty Pearl's gear on Saturday.
Salty Pearl will be fourth up into Saturday's race having finished third first-up at Caulfield in January, finishing second to Sheza Alibi in the Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last month before her last start third to Sass Appeal in last week's Kewney Stakes at Flemington.
"We backed her up last prep and she was able to win at The Valley, and this looks a nice race for her, and we know that she can back up," Maher said.
"We've got the blinkers up our sleeve which we'll use on Saturday. We popped them on last campaign and she hit the mark.
"She came through that last run well and I think she's still on the up."
Salty Pearl has been a model of consistency throughout her 11-start career, featuring in the placings on nine occasions.
The only other time she missed a place, apart from her Thousand Guineas effort, was on debut as a two-year-old in the Merson Cooper Stakes.
Meanwhile Maher has confidence in Milsons Point bouncing back to form in the $1 million The Showdown (1200m).
Milsons Point was successful on debut at Pakenham and finished second in the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield before finishing near last in Melbourne's premier two-year-old race last month.
"His two runs prior to the Blue Diamond were very good," Maher said.
"The Blue Diamond didn't go to plan, but he worked well earlier in the week and if work is anything to go by, he should run back to form and that should hold him in good stead for Saturday."
