Blake Shinn is set to return from a foot injury much earlier than initially expected and will be back riding as early as next week.

Shinn had all but resigned his season was over after suffering heavy bone bruising in an incident at the Cranbourne jumpouts on May 26th, which saw him miss the latter part of the Queensland Winter Carnival.

The 37-year-old put out a statement on social media on Wednesday morning confirming that he'd been given clearance by Racing Victoria to return trackwork, with a view to riding at Sandown on July 9th.

"Following consultation with Dr Ben Barassi of Racing Victoria, I'm pleased to announce that I've received medical clearance to return to trackwork/trials. I then plan to return to race riding on Wednesday, July 9th at Sandown," Shinn said.

"Since sustaining my injury, I've committed fully to the rehabilitation process. This dedication has allowed me to return ahead of schedule – something I'm genuinely excited about."

"This time away has also allowed me to have an impromptu holiday, which has ultimately given me the mental and psychical break my body needed."

"Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support and well wishes during this time. I'm now looking forward to getting back in the saddle and finishing the season strong."

Shinn's return comes just three weeks' prior to the end of the 2024/25 season and crucially keeps the race for both the national and Victorian jockeys' premierships alive.

Shinn sits atop the Australian Jockey Premiership with 150 wins, just 2-1/2 wins ahead of Western Australian William Pike, while also leading the Victorian Premiership and Victorian Metro Premiership tables.

With 139 Victorian winners this season, Shinn sits 20 wins clear of Jamie Mott, but is just eight wins ahead of nine-time Victorian Metro Premiership winner Craig Williams for city winners, the ledger currently at 67-59.

Williams was suspended for careless riding aboard Rothfire in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) and will also be available to ride at Sandown on July 9th.
