Consistent galloper Pounding will be out to add to prize money haul this campaign when he heads to Caulfield

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained galloper has collected just over $63,000 in six appearances this campaign and will be racing for $96,250 and a bonus of $30,000 when he lines up in the VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m) on Saturday.

From a career spanning 53 starts that has netted eight wins and a further 16 placings, Pounding has won close on $1.45 million for his connections.

Pounding is on the back-up from running fifth in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington last Saturday and will be having his first try at 2000m since running fourth at Flemington on July 20 last year.

Moody said Saturday's race had been on the radar for Pounding before he contested last week's contest at Flemington.

"He loves a seven-day back-up, so it was always the plan," Moody said.

"It's a VOBIS race and he's amongst his own again this week.

"He arguably should have the other day as he didn't get a crack at them until late, but it sets him up well for this one."

Pounding will again be opposed to Jimmy The Bear on Saturday but meets that galloper on worse weight terms despite finishing astern of him at Flemington.

"He's got Jimmy The Bear to contend with again, but a different one seems to win each week," Moody said.

"He's in good order and hopefully it's our turn on Saturday.

"He's been consistent throughout his career, and he's won $60,000 this campaign without winning a race and won over $1.4 million overall.

"You would like three or four of them in the yard, as he's always a chance every time he runs."

Moody said Pounding was unlikely to head down the path of the early weight-for-age races that kick-off in Victoria next month and instead may be aimed at some of the country cups that are run around Victoria during the spring.

"The Sale Cup, a race he won last year, and those types of races may be his go, and we'll just try and place him to advantage," Moody said.
