One late bid for Fortunate Kiss
Entered for the Magic Millions Virtual Sale, Fortunate Kiss is racing at Flemington, potentially for the last time.
Fortunate Kiss could be racing for the final time ahead of a career at stud when she lines up at Flemington.
The Lloyd Kennewell-trained mare is entered for the Magic Millions Virtual Sale next week but first will line up in the Victorian Jockeys' Association Trophy (1410m) on Saturday.
Fortunate Kiss was purchased last year by clients of Kennewell's, and has returned her purchase price, with success in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in early July along with her placing in the Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool in April.
Officially turning seven on Friday, Kennewell said Fortunate Kiss would be heading to stud in the new season but believes there is one more run in the mare before her potential sale next week.
"She's had a very good prep," Kennewell said.
"We've had her down the beach. She came back to the stable on Tuesday and had a little grass gallop on Wednesday.
"She worked well and is in good order and it is the right sort of race for her.
"Potentially, it could be her last start. She's entered in the virtual sale next week with Magic Millions, but that also depends on how she goes on Saturday."
Fortunate Kiss has enjoyed the one-on-one attention since heading north to Queensland after finishing second at Warrnambool.
"She won well in the Glasshouse and when she ran in Sydney last time, she ran well, but she got taken out of the race a little bit then hit the line really well," Kennewell said.
"She ran the trip last time, but I expect the 1400 (metres) to be better.
"We haven't done a lot with her since she's been back, but she seems very bright and happy.
"We've tried to freshen her as she's had a long campaign.
"She was at Warrnambool for the Wangoom, she's been up in Queensland, then in Sydney and now she's back in Melbourne, so she's done a bit of travelling.
"But she has been well looked after with one person the whole time, but now she's back in the system here for potentially her last start.
"We might get one more out of her, we'll see, but she'll definitely go to stud this season.
"She's a valuable mare having won the Stakes race that she didn't have before."
