Music Time could go to the Slipper and Sheza Alibi back in the Doncaster conversation
Trainer Gratz Vella hasn't ruled out a Golden Slipper start for Black Opal winner Music Time and there has been significant market support for outstanding three-year-old filly Sheza Alibi for the Doncaster Mile.
These are the latest big-race developments as Sydney's showpiece autumn carnival officially begins with the Coolmore Classic meeting at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
But Vella told Racing And Sports on Wednesday that Music Time has come through his Black Opal win so well connections are now considering paying the $150,000 late entry fee by Monday's 11am deadline to secure a Golden Slipper start for their talented two-year-old.
"Music Time has pulled up 'enormous' from the Black Opal,'' Vella said.
"He did a bit of work this morning and the jockey could hardly hold him. He's feeling so well in himself.
"We will have another look at him tomorrow, make sure everything is spot on and that the horse is still 'with us'.
"At the moment, he's eating everything, he looks great and he's giving us every reason to look at going to the Golden Slipper.
"If we do decide to run him next week, it will very exciting, something to look forward to.''
Music Time, a son of Black Caviar's half brother All Too Hard, has reeled off three successive wins including his dominant Black Opal effort when he scored by nearly two lengths.
TAB Fixed Odds has inserted Music Time at $51 in Golden Slipper betting with the likelihood his odds will shorten if he is a confirmed starter.
Catbird, trained by Frank Cleary, remains the only winner of the Black Opal-Golden Slipper, winning both races in 1999.
Vella has only had one previous Golden Slipper runner and that was 20 years ago when One Time ran down the track behind Miss Finland.
Meanwhile, TAB's Tim Ryan told Racing And Sports that Randwick Guineas winner Sheza Alibi has firmed from $8 into $4.50 for the Group 1 $4 million Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 4.
Moody indicated earlier this week that Sheza Alibi would have one more Sydney start this autumn but suggested it was unlikely to be in the Doncaster Mile even though the filly is very well weighted on 49kg.
The Hall of Fame trainer felt the Group 1 $750,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 28 would be a more likely option for Sheza Alibi.
If Sheza Alibi does line up the Doncaster, she would be attempting to become the first three-year-old filly to win the famous Randwick mile since Sunline in 1999.
