More profits for promising stayer

cis not yet sure where the ceiling is for his progressive stayer Golden Prophet, who made it three wins from his past five runs, taking out the 2100m BM66 in Hobart on Sunday.

Golden Prophet has now won five races from 17 starts ranging from 1620m to 2200m but Adam Trinder is unsure if he will measure up to the top class staying races in Tasmania.

"He's progressing along in the right direction, he has been a little inconsistent in the past with senior riders on board, but young Christopher Pang has really gelled with him," Trinder said.

"He's given him some difficult rides in the past. When he won down here three starts ago, he was off the bridle from the 1200m, but Chris kept toiling away. On Sunday, he was a month between runs, a little bit fresher, sat outside the leader, he's a very good stayer.

"We deliberately missed an Open hcp a fortnight ago because we didn't want to step to that grade over 2400m and back ourselves into a corner, so there's a good progression over the next six weeks to 2100m races."

Golden Prophet has shown a liking for the Hobart track, with three starts in the south for two wins and a minor placing. The five-year-old won two races in succession early on in his career but was then forced to have more than a year off due to injury.

"I thought he was a fringe Cups horse after his first two career wins. He has since had a tendon injury and gone through the rehabilitation process, which probably made him a little dour, but if his rating keeps heading up, then that's probably where we will head.

"He just lacks focus in his races. We had blinkers on him and took them off because if they were working, they weren't working well. It was probably the best we have seen of him focus-wise, so hopefully, he's starting to mature at the ripe old age of five.

"His next run will be here in a fortnight, a BM74 (2100m), so he will get a weight reduction as well, and Chris will claim 2kg."

Senior rider David Pires and apprentice Jackson Radley shared the riding honours for the day with doubles. Pires book-ended the meeting with Just A Needs winning the first and Flying Billie the last. Radley kicked home first starter Daytona Diva and Carnelian Rock, both for his master John Blacker, who shared the training honours with John Luttrell, who also scored a double.

"Things are going along well, I'm three in front now (on the apprentice table) and hopefully it stays like that," Radley said after a masterful ride aboard Carnelian Rock.

Radley was contemplating a shift interstate, but with the premiership in his sights and an injury to Hayley McCarthy, who also rides work for Blacker, he has decided to stay in Tasmania for the time being.

"But every now and then if I get an opportunity I will slip over to Melbourne and ride a couple over there."
