Trainer Robbie Griffiths has penned a program for Legacy Bound that he hopes will lead to a Group 1 victory down the straight at Flemington

Unbeaten in his two starts as a two-year-old, Legacy Bound makes his three-year-old return in the Listed Poseidon Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Griffiths is planning a return to Flemington for the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1100m) on October 4 and then for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1.

Legacy Bound won his maiden on debut at Ballarat in April and bolted away from the opposition in the Group 3 Breeders' Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville at his next start, a race last year's Poseidon winner Growing Empire also dominated.

Griffiths said he did not know what Legacy Bound had under the bonnet when he stepped out for his win on debut.

"When he had his first start, we thought he had a lot more there, but we couldn't get him on the right surface to be sure," Griffiths said.

"So, when he got to Ballarat on the right surface, he went bang, and he did the same in Adelaide.

"The Flemington surface is usually the best we've got and hopefully that's the case on Saturday.

The son of Ole Kirk has been held together so far in his jump-outs and Griffiths said he had held Legacy Bound back from an earlier appearance due to wet tracks.

"He's had a couple of nice jump-outs and galloped really well Monday morning, but he's not at his peak yet," Griffiths said.

"It was hard to get him fit leading into the Vain, or something like that, so we made the decision to stay to the sprint range, and his runs will shape if that is the right way to go.

"When you see him in the yard, he looks good, but his coat is still coming through, so if he can run well on Saturday, he's going to be better for his next start.

"Timing wise, he's going to be at his best for the Coolmore and how good he is for that level of race, we'll learn from Saturday."
