Launceston Nights: Race-by-race preview
Racing under lights at Launceston on Friday night and thanks to Tasracing, here's your race-by-race rundown.
You can catch all the racing action from Launceston and around Tasmania on demand right here from Tasracing.
RACE 1
Strato Ken (3) surprised third-up, beaten a nose over 1200m at Hobart. John Allen is engaged and he won't have to improve much to take this out. Rushonova (10) has found a place in both starts racing forward and will be fitter again. Has a wide gate to manage this evening but has Luke Currie engaged replacing the 3kg apprentice. She can feature with average luck. Team Heist (6) has switched from a Victorian yard and will come into her own over longer journeys. Has good ability and if she's wound up is likely to be running into it. The betting should provide a clue to that. DIZZ BOOGIE TIME (8) debuts and owns a Longford trial win. Has a 2kg claim and looks set to race well.
Suggested Bet: With Strato Ken.
RACE 2
Ilovethistown (2) was an easy Maiden winner here from the pace and then was a touch disappointing jumping an equal favourite at Hobart. Has a low gate today and a key jockey switch with the in-form Byrne Burke replacing the 3kg apprentice. Peaks now and can get back on track. Bad Alibi (7) races forward and was narrowly beaten three times before delivering the deserved Maiden win this track/trip. Will carry just 53.5kg with the claim and has gate speed. She can go on with it now. Accusaient (5) rates similarly off a Hobart Maiden win. Fitter again and Newitt sticks. Has winning claims as well. Roundle Park (3) showed better form at Hobart and maps well. The 3kg claim brings him into it.
Suggested Bet: Going with Ilovethistown.
RACE 3
Tough. Kiss My Rock (3) is a Victorian and as expected he turned the form around winning a CL1 over 1600m at Hobart. He settled back and belted home and on that effort he can come over the top again. Sky Eagle (14) may be the best of the large Blacker contingent. Missed a lip here this grade/trip three back and has been within range over the distance at Hobart since. Always puts in and gets another chance. Snow Eagle (9) comes out of the same race won by Montezulu, and it was a much better run back to the mile. Maps well and has the blinkers applied for the first time. Corsa Veloce (13) was threatening a win before a disappointing run stepping up to a middle distance. Come back to the mile 28 day freshen and has a key jockey switch with Byrne Burke replacing the 3kg apprentice. Has the rail and no surprise if she's back on track.
Suggested Bet: Backing Kiss My Rock
RACE 4
Miss Lyra (5) is fourth up and should be ready to show more. Comes back 200m and will find this more suitable than the 1000 Guineas at Hobart. Keeps the top hoop and her best is good enough. Last Tremble (8) raced forward and just missed here this grade over a mile. Has a low gate and a handy 2kg and coming back to 1400m shouldn't bother. Will get every chance to go one better. Them's The Breaks (6) peaks and is busting to win. Draws awkwardly again but has Luke Currie aboard today, replacing the 2kg apprentice. She should be right in it again. The Pirate Queen (9) spiked her figures beaten 1.2L this track/trip at big odds. Came hard from back in the field and has the inside gate today and handy 2kg claim. Deserves consideration on the back of that run.
Suggested Bet: Leaning to Miss Lyra each-way.
RACE 5 - RACING AND SPORTS BEST BET
Aristopolos (1) keeps winning and improving. Won the Elwick Stakes comfortably at Hobart and then was backed off the map again leading and demolishing an Open 2 field there by 8.5L over this distance. Keeps the top hoop and sets a giant standard. WOOSH (8) creates interest on debut. The Victorian filly has been well educated and won her most recent jumpout over 800m at Caulfield Heath. They must have an opinion and Luke Currie rides. The betting will be key. Momentslikethese (5) was beaten 1.3L in the Elwick Stakes and presents fourth up off a brief freshen. She can race well again. Ramiro (3) didn't have much luck on debut when he was gapped by the top selection. Keeps Newitt and the blinkers go straight on. He can go better. A market watch is recommended on the remaining debutants.
Suggested Bet: Aristopolos to keep winning.
RACE 6
Magnaprime (1) is free running and improved again, winning a 76 here over this trip. Has to raise the bar again but has a handy 2kg claim and is well placed to deliver the hat-trick. Go Jeanie (2) hadn't missed a beat leading and winning an Open 4 here first-up over shorter. Tackled a Group 3 after at 1200m following and found the grade too rich. Much better placed here and the 1400m suits. She can use the inside barrier and make the finish. The Victorian Cripps (5) finds tougher but he was good first-up when leading and winning a CL1 here comfortably. He ran some strong numbers early doors and looks back on track. Tumbles in weight and has a low barrier. The Trine (7) is holding a decent level of form and also gets weight relief. He's in the mix.
Suggested Bet: Magnaprime to win.
RACE 7
A good contest. Daytona Diva (2) was quickly back on track, winning the Strutt Stakes comfortably from the speed. She's likely to roll over and position forward and is up to repeating the dose. Crack The Shutters (1) improved again when narrowly beaten in the Launceston Guineas, backed into red figures. She also races forward and has been freshened 37 days. Deserves to crack one of these and deserves another chance. Aurora Rise (5) leads the Victorian charge. Followed the Geelong Maiden win with a 1.8L defeat in the Strutt and will improve off that. Keeps John Allen and can feature with average luck in the run. Kazaru (4) impressed winning her Maiden at Sale and is sure to appreciate the middle distance. In her previous preparation she competed strongly at Stakes and Group level over 1400m in Adelaide, suggesting she has the class.
Suggested Bet: Going with Daytona Diva.
RACE 8
Lady Galadriel (7) made light work of her rivals in this grade last time at Hobart. Goes up a kilo for the win but has more to offer and can repeat the dose. Fluffy's Girl (5) was a dominant winner two back at Longford but was less effective last time. Gets a key booking in Newitt and will prove tough to reel in from the front if left alone. Mastretta (1) is yet to threaten in her two runs back but has gone back to the trials in-between runs, where she's run well. Boasts a strong record at this venue and is worth keeping in mind. Star Walkin' (9) kicked off the prep in good order but hasn't been as inspiring in his last few. Drops back in trip off a quick freshen and is one to keep safe. Belpine Miss (4) strips fitter third-up and is a likely improver. Can sneak a minor spot.
Suggested Bet: Lady Galadriel to win.
