Ladbrokes Blog: Morphettville Preview – 16th August 2025
Another nine races have been set on the Parks track at Morphettville this Saturday. Fine weather is forecast on race day, but we could be racing on a wet surface with showers about on Friday, and the track is currently rated a Soft 6.

Race 1 – Fleurieu Milk Company Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
No. 11 Artistic Angel
Race time: 8:07 am, 16 Aug 2025
ARTISTIC ANGEL (11) has the standout Ole Dancer form as she prepares for her return to the races on Saturday.
The Jolly-trained daughter to Flying Artie finished within two lengths of the unbeaten filly at Murray Bridge back in Marchin the Magic Millions Classic, before wrapping up her autumn in a Stakes race here on the Parks track where she did little wrong.
She's had a trial win between starts to keep her sharp and she strikes a very winnable race now with conditions to suit.

Race 2 – Dominant Handicap (1400 METRES)
No. 8 Ima Shelby
Race time: 8:42 am, 16 Aug 2025
Pretty open race with a few of these out of form.
IMA SHELBY (8) is one of those given his last win came about two years ago, but I thought he showed a decent amount of improvement last start at Murray Bridge to finish fifth, beaten only 2.5 lengths after laying in around the 100m mark.
He gave good chase between a pair of runners from a tricky gate, so drawn closer in this time with some decent wet track form, I think he's worth entertaining on an each way basis.

Race 3 – BM78 Handicap (1000 METRES)
No. 4 Karavas
Race time: 9:17 am, 16 Aug 2025
KARAVAS (4) has tackled tougher races than this, notably running a place at Group 3 level a year ago in the National Stakes here on his home track.
He's been kept on ice since the spring, last seen winning the Rebel Raider by just over half a length, a mighty effort given he was always wide into the straight before storming home over the top.
His fresh record reads incredibly well for this 1000m assignment and there's certainly no knock on Jake Toeroek's form of late.

Race 4 – BM76 Handicap (2250 METRES)
No. 1 Paradise Storm
Race time: 9:52 am, 16 Aug 2025
PARADISE STORM (1) is worth forgiving on a disappointing run over a touch shorter at Flemington a fortnight ago.
Henry Dwyer's lightly-raced four-year-old was placed in back to back runs prior here in South Australia, while you only have to look at his overseas form to get a feel for how talented he is as a stayer.
He's still got scope for improvement ahead of his fourth start in Australia, and if he handles the weight this time he'll be a big chance.

Race 5 – Morphettville Handicap (1000 METRES)
No. 5 Sign From Above
Race time: 10:27 am, 16 Aug 2025
SIGN FROM ABOVE (5) is an interesting runner racing over 1000m for the first time.
It's been just over a year since the Divine Prophet gelding last won a race, but he has handed in some pleasing efforts this time in work, highlighted by a place here fresh over 1200m.
The wide gate doesn't help his chances, but if he's afforded a patient run this time – which wasn't the case last start at Murray Bridge – he might prove too good late.

Race 6 – Winning Edge Presentations Handicap (1950 METRES)
No. 6 Silent Emmy
Race time: 11:07 am, 16 Aug 2025
Looks as though the in-form SILENT EMMY (6) is the straight bat play here.
She goes around in search of her hat-trick after dominating up on the speed over the course and distance three weeks ago, lapping up the Heavy 10 to kick nearly three length clear in the end.
By So You Think, she's afforded another inside barrier here with the 1.5kg claim again in full effect, and if she's up on the speed early, good luck running her down.

Race 7 – PFD Food Services Handicap (1250 METRES)
No. 1 Colmar
Race time: 11:42 am, 16 Aug 2025
COLMAR (1) has the inside gate to his advantage as he looks to improve on a likable fresh effort.
Wins ahve eluded him at times, but he's genuinely been around the mark over this distance, winning twice and placing on as many occasions.
He was four-wide a few weeks ago when finishing fairly over shorter, but if he's up on the pace early and saved for late under the 1.5kg claim, I'm confident he'll have a bit left in the tank for the finish.
Bet Now: Morphettville Race 7
Race 8 – Quayclean Handicap (1400 METRES)
No. 2 Stokomo
Race time: 12:17 pm, 16 Aug 2025
STOKOMO (2) should be racing with a bit of confidence after finally breaking through for his second career win here last start.
The son to Divine Prophet was gifted an ideal ride up on the speed, racing forward early to offset the wide gate, before quickening over the final furlong to prevail by half a length.
Fitter now with four runs under his belt and some decent wet track form, he can take the next step with little improvement.
Bet Now: Morphettville Race 8
Race 9 – The Fotobase Group Handicap (1250 METRES)
No. 11 Nicish
Race time: 12:55 pm, 16 Aug 2025
Jacob Opperman gets a crack aboard NICISH (11), who has been in work for a while.
In saying that, this talented mare has held her form nicely to return a pair of wins from her last four starts, while she probably could have made it another last time out over the track/distance where she was a little keen early on.
The daughter to Nicconi has been given three weeks between starts like normal, and from an inside barrier this time, she'll likely be strong in the finish if she settles in the run.
