Ladbrokes Blog: Ladbrokes Geelong Preview – 27th November 2024
We’re back to Ladbrokes Geelong this Wednesday with eight races making up the program.
For more racing and sports previews, visit the Ladbrokes Blog.
Rain is forecast right through to race day, meaning we could be racing on something close to a Soft 7 with the rails till in the True position at time of writing.
For thoughts and best bets across the meeting, check out our race-by-race preview below!
Race 1 - 1:00PM: Ladbrokes Own Spring Maiden Plate (2400 METRES)
Instinctive Spirit is a 10-start maiden who appears to be nearing her first win for Matthew Williams.
A daughter to Pierro, this lightly-raced four-year-old has been in work for a while, but continues to hold her form finding the money in three of her last four starts.
She went very close to a win last start at Hamilton, stoking up over the final 200m to find the lead before being run down right before the post.
With some wet track experience and the inside gate to her favour, she should be right there when it matters most again at the top of the straight.

BET NOW: Geelong Race 1
Race 2 - 1:35PM: Wilsons Real Estate Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)
Egerton has gone up a short-priced favourite coming off a handy debut run for second at Ballarat.
The mare to Your Song probably would have won that race if she jumped on time, blowing the start and just lacking the maturity to knuckle down and finish strongly.
She's on a 12-day turnaround with Blake Shinn taking over in the saddle, and from a middle gate, the pair should land off the pace and prove tough to hold out.

BET NOW: Geelong Race 2
Race 3 - 2:10PM: Wilsons Real Estate Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)
Zac Spain and Cilacap combined to run third on debut at Seymour last week, a superb effort given the pair were drawn awkwardly in a race that was never really run to suit.
The filly by Written Tycoon was no match for those that settled closer to the speed, but from a nice soft gate on this occasion, Spain should look to settle closer forward this time.
With the three-year-old possessing a clear turn of foot, this looks another winnable race carrying only 1kg extra.
1 Unit Cilacap (4)
BET NOW: Geelong Race 3
Race 4 - 2:45PM: Rex Gorell Volkswagen (Emerging Stars Series Heat 10) (1300 METRES)
Poroto is a colt with serious upside for the McEvoy team.
This three-year-old by Written Tycoon really caught the eye on debut at Swan Hill back in June, beaten only a length after finding the right run along the rail to finish third.
I'd prefer it if he'd had a trial leading into his return, but he hasn't been asked to do much in two recent jump outs, while the fact Harry Coffey has retained the ride is noteworthy.
From the inside gate, the pair should measure up here in a deep maiden race that presents a handful of key chances.

BET NOW: Geelong Race 4
Race 5 - 3:20PM: Oasis Turf Handicap (1100 METRES)
Rewards And More should be racing with real confidence after scoring a big win first-up at Bendigo two weeks ago.
Jerome Hunter's four-year-old bolted in for a strong win after settling midfield, a huge credit to Damian Lane's patience in the run from a middle gate.
Drawing barrier 7 should allow them to adopt similar tactics here and this race isn't much tougher considering the son of Reward For Effort spent time racing in town over the winter.
Providing he handles the extra weight, he should be more than capable of going on with the job.

BET NOW: Geelong Race 5
Race 6 - 3:55PM: Direct Aluminium Delivers Handicap (1100 METRES)
Wouldn't be shocked if Samangu shortens even further in betting off a four-week break.
We saw this mare resume in fine style at Ballarat last month, winning her maiden by two lengths after finding the box seat early under Jordan Childs.
The pair reunite again here from an even better gate, and it helps knowing she handled soft conditions on debut earlier in the autumn when she placed at Werribee.
If she gets forward early again and tracks the speed, she'll take serious beating with plenty left to give.
2 Units Samangu (7)
BET NOW: Geelong Race 6
Race 7 - 4:30PM: ConnectTel Handicap (1300 METRES)
That'swhatshesaid could give this a bit of a shake at a price.
The 1300m trip is short of her best, but this mare by Group 3 winning sire Swear almost never runs a poor race – finding the money in seven of the 11 races she's contested so far.
She's an experienced wet tracker with a win and a handful of placings to her name, while she's also got a nice inside barrier working in her favour with the claim put to good use.
With a couple of solid first-up efforts to her name in the past, a top three performance here isn't beyond her.
1 Unit (Each Way) That'swhatshesaid (5)
BET NOW: Geelong Race 7
Race 8 - 5:05PM: Viatek Fujifilm Handicap (1500 METRES)
Enxuto resumes for Robbie Griffiths and Matthew de Kock off a three-month spell.
A four-year-old son of Lean Mean Machine, this guy ran some nice races over the winter up in grade, notably finishing fourth to Craig and a distant eighth in behind Le Zebra at Headquarters.
He'll likely be looking for the mile and maybe even further as he gets into his prep, but if he gets luck from wider out and handles some sting out of the track, he might be in the mix here back a level.
