Ladbrokes Blog: Belmont Preview – 20th September 2025

Belmont remains the focus in Western Australia again this Saturday with another eight-race card set. Some rain over the last week has us racing on a Soft 6, but we should have fine conditions on race day with the rail out 9m. See below for our best bets in Perth with our race-by-race analysis at Belmont!

Race 1 – LAWN PRIDE AUSTRALIA PLATE (1000 METRES)
No. 3 Snitzalatte
Race time:  10:59 am, 20 Sept

SNITZALATTE (3) is a Group caliber filly resuming for Adam Durrant.

The three-year-old by Snitzel debuted at Ascot back in March where she won by more than a length, proving that was no fluke a few weeks later out over 1200m with another dominant display up on the speed.

She lost no admirers tackling Group 2 Karakka Plate third-up, making up big ground from the tail to run third, and then going on to finish within a length of Just Too Fly in the WA Produce Stakes to round out her prep.

Back a level now and drawn to get the gun run, she looks very hard to beat.

Race 2 – BUDGET MINI BUS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
No. 4 Niccimota
Race time:  11:36 am, 20 Sept

NICCIMOTA (4) looks the one to beat here with the 3kg claim.

She goes around in search of her hat-trick on Saturday coming off a narrow win over the track and trip three weeks ago where she stalked the lead dearly and then let rip with a solid turn of foot.

This is tougher again, but she should be up on the speed early with the soft track also suiting.

Race 3 – WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
No. 1 My Hidden Universe
Race time:  12:14 pm, 20 Sept

MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE (1) just needs luck to go his way from the wide gate.

He was thrown in the deep end first-up in a tough BM72 contest, but he handled it in his stride to get up and run third carrying 6kg less in the saddle.

The son of Universal Ruler comes back a level with Brandon Louis still in the saddle, and if he can offset the gate and find cover early, he should be tough to catch.

Race 4 – WA RACEHORSE OWNERS' ASSOCIATION TROPHY (1000 METRES)
No. 6 Kay Tee Why
Race time:  12:50 pm, 20 Sept

KAY TEE WHY (6) and William Pike combine looking to pick up where they left off earlier in the year.

The lightly-raced son of Nicconi won twice under the Wizard at Ascot over the autumn, wrapping up their prep with a third to subsequent Stakes winner, Repossesion, over the 1000m trip here at Belmont in late May.

The lack of a trial is a minor concern, but with plenty of late speed under the hood and some wet track experience, he looks the logical choice.

  Bet Now: Belmont Race 4

Race 5 – Belmont Handicap (1650 METRES)
No. 2 Sensessional
Race time:  1:25 pm, 20 Sept

SENSESSIONAL (2) is a proven miler with six wins to his name.

The Williams-trained galloper resumed a handy winner at Pinjarra over 1400m, and then took the next step up to 1600m here at Belmont where he was forced to overcome a three-wide position into the straight.

There's still plenty left in the tank third-up and with eyes potentially on bigger races later in the year, Willy Pike looks the man for the job from a nice soft gate.

Race 6 – BUDGET CAR AND TRUCK RENTAL HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
No. 5 Be Bardot
Race time:  2:05 pm, 20 Sept

BE BARDOT (5) has been given an extra couple of weeks to get ready after being scratched from a meeting two Saturday's ago.

William Pike combined with this smart mare to win over the mile at Ascot back in April before the sharp rise up to 1800m where they were unlucky not to run a place.

Her recent trial win at Lark Hill was encouraging and she does have that maiden first-up win over the track/distance to her name around this same time last year.

Race 7 – THE PETER SCOTT 50-YEARS TRIBUTE HANDICAP (1650 METRES)
No. 10 Twilight Tale
Race time:  2:40 pm, 20 Sept

TWILIGHT TALE (10) is turning into a consistent mare for trainer Michael Grantham.

The Savabeel four-year-old put the writing on the wall when she won over this same trip at Ascot second-up during her maiden prep, while both runs back this time in work have been equally encouraging.

Her latest effort saw her drop right back to last before stoking up five-wide into the turn, eventually winding up with a late run to grab second in a narrow finish.

She'll take plenty of improvement into this assignment third-up and could potentially find the wide gate to her liking given her racing style.

Race 8 – MORLEY GROWERS MARKET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
No. 7 Eliteone
Race time:  3:12 pm, 20 Sept

ELITEONE (7) comes back to compete over 1200m after tackling 100m further last week.

Simon Miller's gelding was beaten 1.5 lengths after settling midfield, and it's fair to say there were excuses on offer after being forced to make up a bit of late ground from the widest part of the track.

His previous effort saw him win well over this course and distance to go nearly two lengths clear, and with a bit left in the tank fourth-up, the decision to race on the quick turnaround warrants big respect.
