Sandown – Sparkling Luck

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained three-year-old debutant did have a cosy run midfield on the fence in the 1200m 3YO maiden and was able to pop off the inside shortly after straightening. Took a furlong or so to really stoke up, but it was hard to miss his last 150m, surging to the line nicely between runners to finish fourth, beaten two lengths by Humble Trader at $21. By Pierro, he will appreciate a step up in trip and with the debut run under the belt he'll prove a tough nut to crack in any maiden next time out.

Warwick Farm – Hush Hush

The market didn't suggest there was a lot of expectation around Hush Hush ahead of the Ciaron Maher-trained filly's debut, with the daughter of Street Boss drifting from $26 to $41 ahead of the 1100m 3YO maiden that kicked off the Warwick Farm card. That looked a justified price turning for home when Hush Hush was seemingly making heavy work of things and looked destined for a midfield finish that probably would have been a pass mark for a filly of that price on a Heavy 10 track. But Hugh Hush found another gear the last 200m and although beaten 3-3/4 lengths, that was by Godolphin colt Burma Star who Chris Waller is likely to test at Stakes level during spring and she easily held the rest. One thing is for sure, unless Maher gets overly ambitious, she won't be $41 at start No 2.
