Jasmin De Grugy gains Grimthorpe honours
Jasmin De Grugy gave Anthony Honeyball a double at Doncaster when battling on strongly to land the Virgin Bet Grimthorpe Handicap Chase.
In a contest run in tough conditions, Jasmin De Grugy, who carries the colours of JP McManus, came with a well-timed run under Richie McLernon to cruise past the front running Some Scope before clearing away to score by a striking 33 lengths.
Speaking of his 5/1 winner, Honeyball told the PA: "It was a funny race in the end because the horse out in front really set it alight,"
"You can't let them get too far ahead, but equally you don't want to go off and do something silly.
"Richie timed it perfectly, people might say he got there too soon, but on that ground, you've got to keep the leader in sight as is it hard to make up the ground.
"He's been a little bit of an enigma since he won his five races in a row, he was second at Punchestown, but he made hard work of it and we've never been quite sure what his best work might be.
"I thought the ground had gone. I didn't expect those conditions to suit, but now we've found that they do we'll have a good look at the programme."
Honeyball at the double
Anthony Honeyball's promising mare Park Princess relished the step up in trip to land the Listed Virgin Bet A Good Bet Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster.
Runner-up in the Listed Betfred 'The Classic Bookmaker' Mares' Novices' Hurdle, she battled on bravely to return to winning ways at Fontwell before failing to land a blow when stepped up to Grade 2 level in the Jane Seymour Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Warwick.
Stepping up to three miles, Park Princess travelled sweetly throughout before easing to the front on the approach to the second last and with the minimum of fuss, she stretched clear to strike by twenty-two lengths from market leader Dream Shadow.
