Dabernig chases more Glory in Adelaide

The Tom Dabernig stable is making another hit-and-run raid at Morphettville.

The last time Tom Dabernig made the trek from his Warrnambool stable to race at Morphettville, it proved a winning exercise.

Cleo Cat provided the Dabernig team with victory in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) on Goodwood Day.

The Dabernig stable is returning to Morphettville on Saturday looking to bag another victory, although this contest does not carry the same glory as the one Cleo Cat captured.

Call To Glory runs for Dabernig in the Celebrating Michael Ferraro 70th Birthday Handicap (1050m) in which he will be ridden by 3kg claiming apprentice Jordyn Weatherley

A winner of six of his 15 starts, Weatherley has been aboard the sprinter in five of those victories, but importantly her 3kg claim will bring the gelding in with 58.5kg on Saturday.

With a rating of 79, Dabernig said Call To Glory was becoming hard to place in Melbourne, hence his decision to travel to Adelaide.

"The best races for him are at Sandown, but he's a turning track horse that is not as well suited by the long straight there," Dabernig said.

"There is an option for him up at Swan Hill, but I've got a few horses like him, including Whistlefield, and I'm trying to split them up.

"So, he'll head over to Adelaide on Thursday night and Jordyn will ride him. Her three kilo claim in town over there will be important for him, and she's got a pretty good record on him too.

"She's won five races on him."

Call To Glory scored at Warrnambool during the Carnival last month on heavy ground and the rain that fell earlier in the week in Adelaide was music to Dabernig ears.

The track was rated in the soft range at acceptance time on Wednesday.

"He does like softer ground, so hopefully there's a little more rain about," Dabernig said.
