Ceolwulf out of the Autumn Carnival
Trainer Joe Pride has revealed stable star Ceolwulf has been ruled out of the Sydney Autumn carnival.
Pride told Racing and Sports Ceolwulf underwent some veterinary tests following the gelding's unplaced run in Autumn Glow's G1 Verry Elleegant Stakes on Saturday and the decision has been made to spell his multiple G1 winner.
"We had some x-rays taken of Ceolwulf's feet and they showed a bit of wear and tear," Pride said.
"This horse tries so hard in his races. It is like it has caught up with him."
"He only had 3½ weeks off after he won at Flemington last Spring and I just feel he needs a break, we'll give him a three month spell now."
Ceolwulf had been unplaced in both WFA starts this campaign which followed an outstanding spring preparation where he won his second successive G1 King Charles III Stakes and then backed up to win the G1 Champions Mile at Flemington.
Ceolwulf, a rising 6yo, has had 27 starts for 7 wins with 4 at G1 level and stake earnings of close to $11 million.
