Campton’s promising types in Ipswich tests
Gold Coast trainer Adam Campton is on weather watch but still confident in his team at Ipswich.
Brisbane and its outer areas copped a soaking in the early hours of Tuesday morning and there could be more to come towards the Ipswich meeting on Wednesday.
Up to 10 millimetres of rain could drop on the city on race day and Adam Campton is on weather watch though the conditions could still suit some of his runners.
Based on the Gold Coast, Campton saddles up four runners on the Christmas Eve card with Charlotte's Here one of his most promising in the TAB Class 3 Handicap (800m).
"She's a quick, quirky horse," Campton said of the $3.20 second favourite.
"She showed a lot of ability early days and we sent her back to the trails and she was going awfully so we thought we'd send her back to the races and make her grow up a bit.
"She came out on debut at Ipswich and nearly won the race at 150-1.
With one win and three placings in five starts, the lightly raced four-year-old mare has raced over the 800-metres in all but one of those outings.
"Last preparation, she was good first-up and then won but she was a little bit disappointing at the end of last preparation but did not handle the track at Gold Coast that day, and also copped a bit of a squeeze which put her off stride," Campton added.
"She is a confidence, momentum horse."
Of his other runners on the day, Perfect Mission steps to the 1200-metres in the Merry Christmas Class 4 Handicap in what is seen as a more suitable distance and similarly for Elronte in the Seven News Class 2 Plate.
"Elronte is a nice horse on the rise and the 1100m will suit better than 1200," Campton said.
His other runner with potential is $5 chance Booya Boy in the Gordon's Gin Benchmark 62 Handicap (1200m).
"Booya Boy is a horse we've got a good opinion of, and the 1200-metres will suit him," Campton said.
"He's a city class horse in time but is still a work-in-progress. He won well and his times were good first-up and he'll be much better over a little but further.
"If the track is not too wet tomorrow, I'd like to see how he goes over 1200."
