Bott banking on Toastie conditions at Randwick
Tomato Toastie will bid to get another win on the board before the end of her two-year-old season.
Plans to turn out Tomato Toastie after her maiden win have been shelved in favour of building the filly's foundation for the future.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott was leaning towards spelling the youngster after she posted a strong midweek victory at Warwick Farm earlier this month but had a rethink when she came through the effort better than anticipated.
With the temptation of this weekend's Schweppes Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on the table, Bott decided to roll the dice and give her an opportunity to chase a Saturday grade win.
"I thought she may have potentially dropped away after that run but she has done better than I expected," Bott said.
"Down the road, we do want to try to be competitive in some of the better quality races with her and hopefully she will have had that conditioning to do so.
"If she had shown signs she'd had enough we would have tipped her out and hopefully we have made the right call."
By Too Darn Hot, the cleverly named Tomato Toastie finished midfield over 1100m on debut at Gosford before showing the benefit of that experience to score over 1200m on a heavy track at Warwick Farm.
With Randwick rated a soft 6 and fine weather forecast, she won't get those conditions on Saturday but Bott believes a distance rise will be to her advantage.
"The 1400 should be a positive for her because she was really strong late the other day," he said.
"It's the right time of year to try to give her as much exposure as we can now because we expect her to be more of an autumn filly."
Tomato Toastie will be among a team of three for Tulloch Lodge at Randwick along with Sly Boots in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1600m) and 2024 Inglis Millennium winner Fully Lit who is set to back up in the TAB Handicap (1400m) following an unplaced effort at Rosehill last week.
