Bingley back after fall

Bingley makes a speedy return.

Star apprentice Lauryn Bingley returns to the saddle in Devonport on Sunday after a fall in Hobart on 11 May.

Bingley has missed the past two meetings, sidelined under the 12-day concussion protocol, but is fit, healthy, and ready to resume.

"I came off pretty good, I had the 12-day stand down for the concussion rules and had a bit of bruising on my neck," Bingley said.

"I went back to trackwork on Tuesday morning, Barry (Campbell) threw me on old Carneros, he likes to hang on a bit, so I got my eye back in pretty quickly, I had a good blow but by the end of the week. I'm excited to get back to it."

Bingley has five rides on the eight-race card, and most look to have winning chances. She will kick off with Gallant Warriors for Adam Trinder in the 1880m BM64 Hcp and Thoros Of Myr for Trinder in the 1150m BM60 Hcp.

Her other three rides are for her boss, Barry Campbell. Four of Bingley's five rides are top weights, with the trainers taking advantage of her 1.5kg claim.

"I've had a lot of support, and I've got my claim down quickly. Most of my rides are genuine chances for Adam and Barry, so hopefully we can get a couple home.

"I really like Bayside and Simply Deep, There's not much splitting them, they try hard, they race handy, they take bad luck out of the equation, and they are flying."

Bayside has started three times for a win and two seconds and will tackle the 1350m Class 2, while Simply Deep has had just one start for an impressive win in Devonport two weeks ago; he is topweight in the 1009m Class 1.

"Running in the 1009m again isn't ideal, but the calendar was against us, but class should get him home again."

With the racing season entering its final two months, Bingley is in a three-way battle for the apprentice title with Jackson Radley and Chloe Wells. Radley snatched a one-win lead over Bingley during her enforced layoff.

"I wasn't very happy about that," Bingley said with a laugh.

"We are all good mates; it's made us all competitive, so hopefully I can get back on top on Sunday.

"In all seriousness, it's made us all improve; we know we have to get to another level, so the next couple of months will be interesting."

Radley has 40 wins, Bingley 39, with Wells on 37.

Senior rider Erica Byrne Burke, who returned to the saddle with a double at Devonport two weeks ago, will miss Sunday's meeting after a trackwork fall.

Byrne Burke is hopeful to be back riding in Hobart next Sunday.
