Expert Racing Tips - 3rd January 2026

Best lay bets in Australia for Saturday, January 3 brought to you by expert form analysts from the Betfair Hub.

Lay bets are an offering unique to Betfair in Australia where punters can bet AGAINST a particular outcome.

THOROUGHBREDS

Geelong: Race 6; #5 Harry's Yacht Down Arrow

Harry's Yacht underperformed versus market expectations at Cranbourne and although the quick back-up is a positive, my gut feel is they will ride him quieter, which means he will be near last in a race with no speed and with that set-up. I couldn't price him near odds-on.

Randwick: Race 7; #3 Cigar Flick Down Arrow

Cigar Flick is well in the market here and runs into some horses that have much better race maps than what she gets from the inside barrier given she is likely going to get back in the run. She has no 2nd up form and will be a likely improver over more ground potentially next start.

GREYHOUNDS

Sale: Race 6; #1 Heavy Haulage Down Arrow

Heavy Haulage has been airborne in recent weeks but I would prefer him drawn wide here. This is a sensational final with plenty of early pressure to his outside and I could see him getting checked in the middle stages.
