Alpha Sofie first of big guns to reappear
Alpha Sofie will be the first of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman’s three-year-old fillies to make her autumn return.
The first of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman's talented bunch of three-year-old fillies is set to have her first run of her autumn campaign at Caulfield.
Alpha Sofie will be racing for the first time since September when she runs in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.
A former Queensland-based filly, Alpha Sofie won twice at Eagle Farm before making an immediate impact for Moody and Coleman when successful at Moonee Valley and was immediately spelled.
Coleman said the stable was eagerly awaiting her return along with three-year-old filly stablemates Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer.
Alpha Sofie has impressed Moody and Coleman with the way she has strengthened and matured in her time away from the racetrack.
"I think she's improved off her last preparation," Coleman said.
"Her work and her jump-outs leading into this first-up run have been really impressive.
"She won very comfortably at her only run for us and it was a good form race as well.
"We're very excited and the break did her well. She seems more mature and stronger physically this time as well."
Alpha Sofie won the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley leaving in her wake Custom, Salty Pearl and stablemate Ole Dancer.
Later in the spring, Ole Dancer took out the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield while Sheza Alibi was a winner during Melbourne Cup week before going on to take out the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m),
"She (Alpha Sofie) is the first one we're unleashing and next week we'll have Sheza Alibi and Ole Dancer back at the races, all being well," Coleman said.
"Sheza Alibi goes to the Desirable Stakes while Ole Dancer will go to the fillies and mares Frances Tressady Stakes."
Both those races are over 1400m at Flemington.
