Reigning John Letts Medalist Jake Toeroek’s impressive finish to the 2024-25 racing season continued at Morphettville on the weekend with a riding double.
Jake Toeroek rode 11 winners from 40 rides in May and is on track for a similar result in June, having already produced six winners from 30 rides.
He lifted the well-backed favourite Starts Now to victory for Richard and Chantelle Jolly before producing a perfectly timed run to get Fast Bubbles home for the Wayne Francis and Glen Kent stable.
Toeroek shared riding honours with apprentice Matthew Chadwick, who landed a race-to-race riding double in the final two races of the day.
Chadwick proved a quaddie killer when Magnetic Edge scored a $26 for the John Hickmott and Carrina Riggs stable before Voltage Point came off the speed and produced an impressive finishing burst to claim the last race of the day for Chris Bieg.
It was Chadwick's first metropolitan double, the second leg coming on the same horse who gave him his first city winner since coming to SA.
"It's great, (I'm) grateful for the opportunity,'' Chadwick said.
"I'm two from two on him now, the boss has to keep me on him for a bit longer,'' he said.
Will Clarken and Niki O'Shea took training honours with a double, Hajra bounced back to winning form with Ben Price in the saddle, before Cicala maintained her unbeaten record with Rochelle Milnes riding.
Her impressive win at her city debut will now see her have a crack in the Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville next month.
"She's a very unassuming little filly,'' Clarken said.
"We dropped her back to the farm, and she's just blossomed; she's got a really good turn of foot on her.
"We'll go five weeks between runs and run her in the Lightning next,'' he said.
At Port Augusta on Sunday, Alyssa Webb recorded her first race win when Mohite made it consecutive impressive wins on the dirt.
Coming off an eight-length win there at his previous outing, the Garret Lynch-trained galloper blitzed rivals by more than 11 lengths to make it three wins from his past four starts.
Sairyn Fawke had a riding treble while Dylan Caboche walked away with a double, including the Squatter's Cup aboard Ichibansan for Kylie McKerlie.
