Regal Gem leads charge into Happy Valley Million Challenge Final
After nearly half a year of competition, the Happy Valley Million Challenge reaches its decisive finale.
Since the series began in September, points have been awarded in each designated race — 15 points for first, 6 for second, 4 for third and 3 for fourth — with the owners of the top three horses on the final leaderboard sharing a total HK$1.5 million bonus (HK$1 million to the champion, HK$350,000 to the runner‑up and HK$150,000 to the third‑placed horse).
Following multiple rounds of racing, Regal Gem currently tops the standings with 42 points, while King Miles and Storm Rider sit close behind on 36 points apiece.
Although Speed Dragon remains fourth, he will not compete tonight and is effectively out of the running.
Helene Feeling sits fifth with 32.5 points, and Romantic Son is sixth on 30 points, both still retaining mathematical chances of climbing into the top three on this final night. Helene Feeling (32.5 pts) will be the first of the contenders to step onto the track, lining up in Race 3 from a favourable barrier 2.
Despite trailing the leading trio, his recent form has been encouraging. A strong early performance could place him back into the mix for a top‑three finish, while also injecting early tension into the evening's proceedings. The storyline then shifts to Race 7, where King Miles (36 pts) faces Romantic Son (30 pts), the latter returning quickly after winning from barrier 1 last week.
King Miles will be keen to strike early and close the gap on Regal Gem ahead of the main event; however, another bold run from Romantic Son could further reshape the leaderboard heading into the finale. The climax arrives in Race 8, unquestionably the feature contest of the night. Regal Gem (42 pts) and Storm Rider (36 pts) go head‑to‑head in what may ultimately decide this year's Million Challenge champion.
The pre‑race dynamics are made even more compelling by their contrasting draws: Storm Rider has secured a highly advantageous barrier 2, while Regal Gem will need to overcome the challenge of starting from gate 12. Both horses have delivered consistently strong performances at Happy Valley this season, and the tactical decisions surrounding early positioning, race tempo and ground‑saving opportunities may prove decisive in determining the final standings.
The Happy Valley Million Challenge reaches its dramatic conclusion tonight. Whether Regal Gem can hold his lead, or whether King Miles, Storm Rider, Helene Feeling or Romantic Son can mount a late surge, the answer will soon be revealed under the floodlights of Happy Valley.
