Australian Harness Racing Preview – Saturday, 2nd August 2025

Early Eureka favourite Bay of Biscay heads a five-horse attack by Victorian trainer Emma Stewart on Saturday night’s Menangle meeting.

Bay Of Biscay last ventured to Sydney when he won the Hondo Grattan-Chariots of Fire double earlier in the year, a victory that confirmed his spot at the top of betting for the Eureka in September.

The four-year-old comes up against a strong Kevin Newman Free For All field that features several well seasoned pacers coming off the Inter Dominion.

He'll also have to overcome a wide barrier but he appears to be back in good order having resumed with a fighting win at Melton, working to the front and digging deep to score narrowly.

Bay of Biscay goes very well second up with three wins and a placing from four attempts so should have come on and can take the next step towards going one better than when runner-up in last year's Eureka.

Captains Knock is one of those returning off the Inter Dominion and was very good from tough barriers through the series, finishing runner-up in two heats before he was buried away on the pegs when midfield in the final. He is suited by the class drop so is well up to winning this.

Kingman powered to a winning start for the Luke McCarthy stable when cruising home by 35m at Menangle last week. This race is stronger but he draws lower and it was hard not be impressed by that last effort.

Cya Art was very brave with top-four finishes in all three Inter Dominion appearances including his third in the final. He deserves respect from a low draw.

Stewart's War Dan Buddy looks well placed in the night's opener. He'll be fitter for a resuming placing and was good in Sydney earlier in the year, finishing second to Bay of Biscay in the Hondo Grattan before a midfield finish from a tough draw in the Chariots of Fire.

Sir Jimmy and Go Miki also head to Sydney having won their last two outings in Victoria while Breeders Crown winner Kiss will have to overcome the widest barrier if she is to beat the local mares in the night's final event.

The opening event at Melton on Saturday night sees a good clash with the in-form Yambukian taking on multiple Group 1 winner Catch A Wave.

Yambukian is flying having recorded a fifth straight win at Melton when he came from the same barrier and worked before digging deep to get home narrowly last week.

Winning form is hard to knock and he looks a big chance to add to the picket fence.

The talented but enigmatic Catch A Wave could hold the key to the race. He comes through the Inter Dominion series where his best effort was a second from the back row in his opening heat.

He strikes at 50 per cent over 1720m at Melton and his best form would win this.

Smart mare Sahara Breeze overcame the outside barrier for a Listed win against the girls in Sydney last start. She dead-heated with Yambukian at Melton prior so must be respected from the ace draw.

The Emma Stewart-trained pair Oliver Dan and Miki To Success are both proven second-up so are capable of improvement from low draws.
