Moore Triumphant in International Jockeys’ Championship
Ryan Moore claimed the International Jockeys’ Championship for a third time at Happy Valley on Wednesday thanks to victories on both Corleone and the well-named Triumphant More.
A two-time winner of the competition, Moore was making his come back to racing on the world stage following a spell on the sidelines with a fractured femur and only returned to riding when successfully landing a double at Lingfield a week ago.
The 42-year-old was facing a stellar twelve-strong line-up of jockeys from around the world but none of them could stop the Ballydoyle number one from opening his account on the night when Corleone dug deep for an all-the-way success in leg two.
With weighing room compatriot William Buick taking out the opening leg and Hugh Bowman successful in leg three, the title was up for grabs heading into the fourth and final contest, with Zac Purton also still in the hunt following a pair of second-place finishes.
However, riding the aptly-named Triumphant More, who seemed up against it on paper from stall ten, Moore produced his mount with a well-timed effort from the rear of the field to defeat Tourbillon Golfer by three parts of a length, completing a double on the night and therefore emerging victorious in the four-leg challenge.
"I'm very fortunate to have been coming back here for so many years and it's a long time since I last won it," said Moore.
"It's fortunate I had two very good rides today and it worked out nicely for me. I'm just thankful to be coming back here and I had the luck tonight."
