King’s best bets – 28th January 2026
Sam King is back with just the one selection on Wednesday.
With both Exeter and Leicester succumbing to the heavy rainfall from Storm Chandra, Kempton remains the sole action in Britain on Wednesday with Dundalk providing further racing from across the Irish Sea.
The concluding Try Unibet's New Smartview Racecards Handicap (8.30) at Kempton looks by far the standout contest on the card, with some classy middle-distance handicappers going toe-to-toe.
Last year's winner Paradis holds obvious claims for Alan King and Rossa Ryan, but this may prove all about in the Ian Williams-trained Beylerbeyi, who smacked as a surefire improver when an eye-catching third behind the reopposing King's Code at Newcastle twelve days ago.
The likeable King's Code deserves plenty of respect once more, but I just cannot see how he upholds the form off 6lb worse terms, especially given he looked to benefit greatly from being well-positioned throughout at Gosforth Park.
In contrast, Beylerbeyi found himself with far too much to do having been held up well off the pace on that occasion and while a blocked passage inside the final furlong did his chances no favours, it did mean that Billy Loughnane was forced to take things easy late-on.
That recent outing, which was his first start for 97 days, should put him spot on for this, while the extra furlong can only be a viewed as a positive for last year's versatile Cesarewitch hero.
Beylerbeyi – 1pt Win
Odds – 3/1
