King’s best bets - 12th February 2026

Sam King is back with two selections on Thursday having tipped another 11/2 winner yesterday.

The best bet of the day comes from Chelmsford, and I'd be disappointed if Crimson Rambler wasn't capable of landing the Secret Admirer Handicap (7.30).

Callum Shepherd has ridden seven winners from 30 rides over the last fortnight and with George Scott in similar form, I'm certainly hopeful that Crimson Rambler will have what it takes to get off the mark tonight.

The application of first-time blinkers and the switch to handicap company nearly worked the oracle when he went down by a neck at Wolverhampton ten days ago.

Due to go up 3lb for that near-miss, it's no shock to see connections opt to turn him out quickly once more, while this sizeable, gelded son of Bated Breath should be more at home on Chelmsford's more galloping surface.

Shepherd should be able to slot into a nice position from gate four and this looks like a winnable opportunity.

Crimson Rambler – 1pt Win

Odds – 6/4

Earlier on the card, Aberama Gold could be ready to strike in the Cupid's Arrow Handicap (6.00).

Three-time course and distance winner Justcallmepete always needs to be treated with respect at the Essex venue but he's perhaps a touch high in the weights at the moment, whereas in contrast, Aberama Gold looks well-treated to get back to winning ways.

The former Stewards Cup scorer remains on his last winning mark and backed up a good effort at Newcastle over the six furlongs with another solid run in defeat over this course and distance last time.

He's had both Coachello and Justcallmepete behind in recent starts and with Gallant and Thurso having question marks surrounding them, it's probably fair to say he brings the most solid recent profile to the table.

David O'Meara's nine-year-old is clearly still showing just as much enthusiasm for the game as he was from day dot and he might well just add another victory to the every-growing tally from a good draw in stall two.

Aberama Gold – 1pt Win

Odds – 3/1
