King’s best bets - 10th September 2025

Sam King is back with one selection on Wednesday.

As British racing unites to protest at proposed betting tax changes, the four scheduled meetings across the country have been cancelled and rescheduled, leaving Cork as the sole betting option in the UK and Ireland on Wednesday.

Just one horse catches the eye at Cork this evening. The seven-furlong fillies' maiden looks like being an informative affair, although I'd be disappointed if Josh's Joy couldn't put her experience to good use and get off the mark at the third time of asking.

The Donnacha O'Brien-trained juvenile has shown a good level of ability in both outings to date, shaping full of promise when third over the mile at Leopardstown on debut before being denied a head when dropped back to seven at the same track next time out.

The form of her debut effort took a nicely boost when the winner, Queen Of Hawaii, went on to follow-up in the Group 3 Newtonanner Stud Irish EBF Stakes at the Curragh, while the filly she bumped into second time out, Smexy, had previously finished third behind the highly exciting Composing in the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes.

Seven furlongs around a track like Cork should be right up her street and I suspect Gavin Ryan will look to keep things simple from her inside draw in gate one.

Donnacha O'Brien's filly looks a standout on the figures and can get off the mark here with a routine success.
