I Am Maximus, Nick Rockett and Iroko head 78 Grand National entries

78 horses featured on the entry list for the 2026 Aintree Grand National when the contest closed at lunchtime on Tuesday, down 12 from 90 entries last year.

Willie Mullins' defending champion Nick Rockett remains in contention alongside stablemate and 2024 winner I Am Maximus, who finished a creditable fifth in the Irish Gold Cup yesterday.

Mullins could also saddle the likes of Appreciate It, Lecky Watson, Impaire Et Passe and Champ Kiley after they all featured among the trainers fifteen entries.

Gordon Elliott, who was responsible for 16 entries last season, is responsible for 12 this time around as he, alongside Willie Mullins, seeks a record-equalling fourth Grand National triumph.

Leading contender Iroko was amongst the entries for joint-trainers Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero and notable owner JP McManus, while Jagwar, who has gone down narrowly in two competitive handicaps at Cheltenham this season, also received an entry.

Rebecca Curtis has all eyes on the Cheltenham Gold Cup for her stable star Haiti Couleurs, but this season's Welsh Grand National hero did receive an entry as a back-up plan.

Curtis said on Sky Sports Racing: "Things can go wrong between now and March, it is another option if, for some reason, he did miss the Gold Cup. Whether you would think of the two for him I'm not sure, we'll just see what happens now going forward."

Ireland provided 49 of the 78 entries, with Britain responsible for the remaining 29.

The Gordon Elliott has 12 in as he searches for a record-equalling fourth National victory.

The weights will be revealed at a ceremony in Liverpool in a fortnight's time, with final declarations set to be 72 hours before the race. There will be six reserves named.
