Brown bags another Caulfield double
Ethan Brown partners promising pair to Caulfield Heath double.
Hong Kong-bound Ethan Brown continued his hot run of form with a second Caulfield double in three days after contrasting victories aboard a pair of odds-on favourites at Monday's Super Bowl meeting on the Heath track.
After guiding untapped gelding Yes Yoshi ($1.65) to a dominant win in the third race of the day, Brown scored a last-stride win aboard She's A Hustler ($1.50) two races later.
Yes Yoshi and She's A Hustler were Brown's only two rides for the day and his first time aboard each galloper on raceday.
Trained by Ciaron Maher, She's A Hustler bounced back after a trio of defeats as a short-priced favourite at the first run of her campaign and Brown said being hampered at the start meant there was more merit to the win than the margin suggested.
"It's hard being back and wide around this track and I know she's only won by the barest or margins, but there was a lot more merit (to the win) than it looked," he said.
"She's on the way up. She's a very nice horse going forward and (there's) no better way to kick off your prep."
She's An Artist, a daughter of Trapeze Artist who has now won half of her six starts, defeated Excess ($13) by a short-half-head in the 1100-metre event for benchmark 78 performers with Along The River ($6) one length away third.
Brown had a much more comfortable ride aboard Yes Yoshi, a son of Yes Yes Yes who made it two wins from as many starts with an emphatic win in the 1200m Class 1.
The Charlotte Littlefield-trained three-year-old backed up his debut win at Sale in track record time with a soft 1-1/4-length win over Savitri in a performance that impressed Brown.
"He's a big baby at the minute, but for him to win like that and show that sort of ability as immature as he is is quite exciting going forward," Brown said.
Brown's double, which followed Saturday's double aboard Observer and Light Infantry Man, lifted him into equal second position, with Craig Williamson, on the Victorian Metropolitan Jockeys' Premiership on 29 wins, seven astern injured leader Mark Zahra.
Brown will miss a large chunk of the back end of the Victorian season, however, with the 26-year-old confirmed over the weekend as the recipient of a contract for the final three months of the Hong Kong season.
Brown was one of three riders to celebrate doubles on the seven-race card, joined by Jamie Mott and Logan Bates.
